Featured June Fishing-Focused Bundle: June/July 2025 Trout/Pike/Grayling Fishing Special with a day Fly-Out float trip!

June is a beautiful time of year to visit Alaska. There are so many things the month of June has going for it in the Great North! Spring has officially transitioned to summer, bringing the first consistently warm weather of the season in our region. Temperatures in the 70s are common with dry/sunny weather more common than clouds and rain. The first of the wildflowers are popping and the greenery of the landscape is extraordinarily beautiful. Arctic terns visit our river early in the month enroute to their summer home above the circle. Baby salmon smolt begin their journey to the ocean kicking off the first trout feeding frenzy of the year. 24 hours of daylight maximizes the day for tourists and wildlife alike. Be it fishing, photography, flight-seeing, hiking, paddling or other adventures, June is a great time to visit. It also tends to be one of the quieter seasons tourist-wise, so a great time for introverted nature-seekers!

June Alaska Fishing

Rainbow Trout fishing is awesome in June! Native rainbows congregate in the lower river to feed heavily on migrating salmon smolt and emerging insect hatches. For trout enthusiasts, definitely consider June for a phenomenal trout fishing experience combined arctic grayling and northern pike. Cold spring water flows welcome the first of the King (Chinook) salmon into our remote river system by June 1 of each year and pulse into the river system in good numbers by June 10th, peaking through early July. King Salmon are under conservation status in Alaska, with many seasons closed to king fishing or restricted to catch and release only. Arctic Grayling fishing is also good to excellent during the first few weeks in June. Both trout and grayling are targeted by spin and fly fishing methods with exceptional results.

June Weather and Trip Planning

The weather in June is typically fair, temps in the 60s and 70s, but in some years the transitional weather of spring can hold on through the middle part of the month. This may involve clouds and cooler temperatures with occasional light rain showers. Always assume the 'worst' when planning for your trip. Pack layers that you can add or shed as weather conditions change. With 20 hours of direct sunlight, do not under-estimate the power of the sun! Sunburn is possible in Alaska, especially when on the river or lakes. Check out our suggested trip packing list for appropriate clothing and gear to consider. For fishermen, keep in the know when it comes to fishing regulations, appropriate licenses, etc. All fishing-resources can be viewed on our fishing guide page.
