Wilderness Place Lodge is a true fly-in wilderness experience — there’s no road access, and that’s exactly what makes it special. All guests fly in and out via Rust’s Flying Service from Anchorage’s Lake Hood seaplane base, the world’s busiest floatplane base.

We take pride in serving exceptional food in the heart of the Alaskan wilderness. Our chef team uses the freshest ingredients from Alaska’s finest purveyors — and they’re always happy to accommodate dietary needs and preferences. Just ask!
Breakfast Early risers (before 6:00 AM) will find a hearty continental spread waiting — oatmeal, fresh fruit, cereal, pastries, toast, jam, and plenty of fresh coffee and hot tea. Prefer to sleep in? Our chefs cook to order until 9:00 AM so you never miss a hot meal before hitting the water. You can eat in, grab breakfast to go, or head out early and return for a hot meal later.
Lunch Most guests love a streamside lunch — packed fresh by our chefs and sent out with your guide in coolers. Prefer to come back to camp? A noon lunch at the lodge or at our creekside picnic table is always an option. And for something truly memorable, ask about a fireside shore lunch featuring your fresh-caught salmon — just give us one day’s notice!
Dinner Join us each evening at 6:00 PM for beverages and hors d’oeuvres before a beautifully prepared dinner. Our chefs craft diverse, exciting menus with the finest Alaskan ingredients. Beer and wine are complimentary — we just ask that you enjoy responsibly!
The coffee is always on — including our own house-roasted fresh beans. It truly is an exceptional cup.
Your Guide, Your Schedule We assign one guide for every 2–3 guests, giving your group the flexibility to plan each day exactly as you like. We do ask that each group take an afternoon or evening break so guides can rest and handle essential tasks like fish filleting, boat cleaning, and gear maintenance.
Legal fishing hours (June – July 13): 6:00 AM – 11:00 PM per Alaska state regulation.
If you plan to fish late into the evening, we ask that groups return to the lodge by 2:30 PM so guides have adequate rest time before heading back out.
Know Before You Go: Physical Considerations We’re located on a remote, mountain-fed river system — and fishing here is as wild and beautiful as it sounds. Accessing the best fishing spots involves a combination of boating, wading, and hiking over gravel riverbeds. Expect to be on your feet for several hours each day, even when the fishing area is reachable by boat.
River levels and conditions change throughout the season and are beyond anyone’s control. We ask that all guests honestly assess their physical abilities before booking.
For guests with physical limitations: The best fishing close to the lodge typically occurs in early-to-mid June and mid-to-late July. During these windows, excellent fishing is available right near camp — with both wading and boat-fishing options that don’t require extensive hiking.
